Re: puggle
Wed, December 7, 2005 - 11:13 AMWasn't a pug created by mixng breeds once upon a time? I agree with the people who worry that puggles will end up in shelters once they stop being the flavor of the month, but I don't understand people who are SO upset that two breeds are being mixed. As long as they are heathy, so what? -

Re: puggle
Fri, February 3, 2006 - 11:31 AMi think the concern is that there are no breed standards in place, no way to judge into what kind of dog you're putting a huge financial investment. we know, as pug people, what kinds of behaviors, health concerns, personality traits, physical attributes, etc, to look for in our dogs. if you google puggles, you see a broad range of sizes, coats, snouts, ears, which leads me to believe you also get a broad range of behaviors, aggressiveness, noise, etc... all these unknowns, and these "designer mutts" are going for $600-+$1000 in some markets. that seems unfair to all the people who work hard to breed healthy, breed conforming pugs and beagles. if a select few breeders were to create a specific breeding criteria, overseen by an organization like the AKC, for the puggle, i'd be less inclined to think poorly of them. -

Re: puggle
Fri, March 10, 2006 - 6:30 PMThe puggle only concerns me because they cost more than a pug in my area of the world. *snort* and they are essentially a mutt. What used to be a rescue is now a designer breed, and its sad that people will pay so much for a mutt instead of just adopting one. oh well *snort* -

Re: puggle
Mon, May 22, 2006 - 6:41 PM*snort* all dogs were essentially mutts to begin with and the bulldog has PUG in it but ITS not a mutt. How do you think the hundreds of AKC breeds got started anyway? Lighten up! I have a Pug AND a Puggle and the American Puggle Club is registering Puggles as we speak, complete with photos! Puggles are here to stay and they don't *snort* as they have a nose! LOL

Re: puggle
Sun, June 4, 2006 - 9:49 AMActually, the pug is about the only known breed of dog that wasn't created that way as far as we know, the pug is the oldest recognised breed of dog, most other snub nosed dogs (boston terrier, french bulldog) got that way from being mixed with pugs.

Re: puggle
Mon, May 22, 2006 - 6:50 PMYep, English Bulldogs have PUG in them too and THEY are AKC!
Try visiting THE Puggle Registry for PUGGLES ONLY!
The American Puggle Club has a registry that requires PHOTOS AND they have a breed standard too... Puggles ARE here to stay!
and just like ANY breed, they unfortunately wind up in shelters but how many million Pugs have I seen that are in shelters and adoption places... tons! and that's a shame too!
Any breed can be a shelter dog, why is everyone pinning it all on Puggles, you would think that every shelter in the world has nothing but Puggles in there! There are a MILLION unethical backyard breeders out there and trust me, they aren't just breeding Puggles!
and by the way, most AKC registered dogs were once MUTTS!!!!!!! Hello?????? -

Re: puggle
Fri, May 26, 2006 - 10:29 AMUm....I am inclined to believe that cross breeding existing pure lines with other purebred lines is a modern day attempt to "design" the next doggie bauble-----not a genuine effort to improve existing lines and breed with true purpose.
This will never be controlled and the backyard breeding of all kinds of animals for profit and ego fueled attention from others will go on. Sad but true....
You can go back and trace origins of breeds of dogs, cats, horses etc and justify "new breeds" all ya want. But the real Question is why a "Puggle"? Like what for?
Why?
Um yeah right....because we can....because they're sooooo cute......HELLO....the puppy mills are fueled by this irrational logic.
Rant over...carry on....

Sat, June 3, 2006 - 12:56 PMwww.pugs.org/Puggles.htm
Breeding to create a new breed with standards is not being done with puggles. In order to do that, only the finest pugs and finest beagles would be breed together. And only the ones exhibiting the desired characteristics would be allowed to be deemed puggles. Others would be mutts, and neutered/spayed immediately. Selective breeding for generations before a breed standard could even be truly established for registering.
This is not being done with puggles. Everyone here loves pugs and puggles and all mixed breeds, I'm sure. And unfortunately puggles wil end up shelter dogs, not because they are of mix breed, but because they are a fad. Similar to pugs after Men in Black. It's sad.

Re: puggle
Sat, June 3, 2006 - 1:17 PMI also want to add that a $45 registration fee to AmericanPuggleClub.com is ridiculous and this is a crazy money making scheme...What do you get for $45??? Where does this money go? Who owns the APC--Where is the business license? Has anyof this been copyrighted or trademarked? Why is the e-mail address an aol address?
Love puggles, love pugs, love all dogs, but please don't support this puggle registry at this time.
